Dear Raider Families,
As we communicated last Spring, Shenandoah was one of 30 recipients of the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Grant. The federally funded before and after school program helps students (at no cost to families!) meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, offers an array of enrichment activities to help their personal development, and provides literacy and other educational services to students and families of participants.
Unfortunately, we recently received notification from the Federal Department of Education that the Administration is reviewing the funding for all Title IV-B grant programs, which is the source for this grant. We are hopeful that these funds will eventually be delivered to the states and distributed to schools as Congress intended.
As a result of this pause in funding, we will not be able to offer a free and more holistic program at this time. If and when we receive notification that grant funds will be delivered, we are prepared to pivot to a more robust program as planned. In the meantime, below are the current plans for before and after school care.
Before School
All schools will be open at 6:45 a.m. for parents to drop off students (if necessary). Each building will communicate specific instructions for student arrival. There is no cost for this service.
Latchkey After School Care
Latchkey is a childcare program for students in pre-k through 8th grade that provides care and education for children of working parents. The program is designed to be a link between the home and school. Located at Shenandoah Elementary School, the staff includes a program director and assistants. The program operates after school until 6:00 p.m. on days that school is in session and costs $10.00 per day or $45.00 per week. Additional information, including how to register, can be found on our website here.
If you have any additional questions, please contact the Program Director, Brittnee Holloway at bholloway@shenandoah.k12.in.us or Chandler Cross, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at ccross@shenandoah.k12.in.us.
Sincerely,
Jake Wiese
Superintendent
